Here’s some comparison shopping for you. On the right side of this photo, you see the vinyl edition of Liars’ new album Sisterworld, which retails for $16/17 in the US. It has a lovely slipcase cover with a die-cut door the opens up, and includes two 180 gram vinyl records AND two cds for the album and its accompanying remix set, plus two large beautiful booklets of photographs and liner notes. On the left side, you see the non-deluxe cd version of the record, which retails for $14/15, and is nothing more than a cd in a cardboard sleeve plus a small paper insert. I bought the former, and the latter was sent to me by the label. I originally thought “Oh, well, this is probably not the full-art version, and just the thing they send out as a promo.” But no, it is indeed what you will find in record stores! The disparity between these two similarly priced items is ridiculous, and since the record set includes the cd, there is no reason for anyone to ever buy the single-cd version. If you were interested in purchasing a physical copy of Sisterworld, you now know what you’ve got to do.
